Film Index International

Film Index International is a comprehensive filmography from 1900 to the present that offers international coverage of over 120,000 films and 735,000 film personalities from over 180 countries. Its rich content also includes information on international film awards, as well as searchable plot summaries and full cast and crew lists.

Film record information includes director, year of release, cast and crew, and awards, plus a synopsis and production details. Person records include life dates, professional names, and awards, plus a complete list of films associated with the person. Each record is hyperlinked to other related records, enabling users to navigate from the films listed to the corresponding film record. References to periodical literature are also cited in many film and person records, extending research opportunities. These references may be linked to full text available in library resources.

All eras of film-making are covered – from the early silent movies to recent box-office hits. Based on the BFI's Summary of Information on Film and Television (SIFT) database, Film Index International is both inclusive and authoritative.

FIAF International Index to Film Periodicals (Plus)

The FIAF International Index to Film Periodicals, produced in collaboration with the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF), is a bibliographical resource offering in-depth coverage of hundreds of the world's foremost academic and popular film journals. It brings together contributions from experts around the world dedicated to film preservation, cataloguing and documentation.

The main component of the FIAF International Index to Film Periodicals contains almost 400,000 article references from nearly 340 film periodicals from 1972 to the present day. Each entry consists of a full bibliographic description, an abstract and comprehensive headings (biographical names, film titles and general subjects). A hierarchically ordered thesaurus with more than 20,000 subject terms facilitates browsing and helps narrow down or broaden out searches.

In addition, the Plus version of the FIAF International Index to Film Periodicals offers access to over 85,000 full-text articles from nearly 40 key journals. The depth and scope of coverage make this database a reliable, convenient tool for research into any aspect of cinema or film-making around the world.

AFI Catalog

The AFI Catalog, compiled by specialist researchers at the American Film Institute (AFI), is the premier resource for American films, providing an exhaustive view of American features produced between 1893 and 1971. Offering an unmatched level of detail and subject indexing, the catalog includes full production and cast information. In addition, extensive plot summaries and meticulously researched production notes written by AFI experts give exciting insight into every detail of the motion picture. Records are updated twice yearly with TV and movie adaptations and life details on previously released films.

The ultimate national filmography, the AFI Catalog documents nearly 48,000 films produced in the United States or financed by American companies. More than 17,500 entries cover the early years of American film from 1893 to 1910. Drawing on the expertise of specialist staff at the AFI, the catalog is a key resource for any institution, media body or library that is involved with the research, study and teaching of film.

AFI Catalog also includes full listing of the Top 10 films from 2000 to 2006. The AFI records the year's most outstanding achievements in film and honours these at the annual AFI Awards. The site includes information on the chosen films listed in alphabetical order within each year the film was premiered.
